— WRITING —
Three decades of stories, journeys and unique perspectives of the world.
Would you believe that SOME brokers are doing to have a good year? That SOME agents will capture market share and meet their sales goals? That SOME business plans will work well in SOME markets and deliver SOME pretty good results?
Imagine that for a moment. Someone you know only lightly online, a friend of a friend, takes time to read or watch the little things you share for free. With whom you haven't done a deal or received a fee. Then takes a moment to thank you - by hand - because you made a difference. #AlwaysInspiring
What's the difference between uncertainty and danger? The answer, in my experience, isn't just more data. It's easy to overwhelm ourselves with information. Instead, what's helpful in times of turbulence is for someone to show up and provide reassurance -
Someone like You!
The most important part of the sale isn’t always the features and benefits. Lots of products and people perform many of the same tasks, with similar parts and even lower prices. But only you can sell -
You!
Tell people how to reach you. That's enough. But WHEN they reach you,
Make sure you deliver the greatest YOU!
Do you ever tell someone to "have" a good week? It might be better to say, "make it a good week" instead. Why? Because for better or worse is entirely
Up to You!
While this message is written directly for my real estate friends, anybody reading my blog can probably benefit from the same approach: Whenever in doubt, make a list of as many positive perspectives as you can about your current situation. Then keep it handy, whenever worry rears its ugly head. That’s what I tried to do, which led to this message:
If doing our job, and making money, were just a matter of showing up and pressing buttons, we’d all be Bitcoin millionaires by now. Funny how the organizations that are falling apart these days - fake currencies, cheap airlines, cut-rate supply chains, companies with ill-trained staff - all have one thing in common.
You always get what you paid for.
Thirty years ago I thought my most important classroom asset was a set of expensive color-printed transparencies. I was always worried about losing one or getting them out of order. Today, we’re all still using visuals, on par with a movie studio.
I recently heard someone say that "cutting costs" was the only thing companies can do to handle the changing market. When times get tough, and revenue falls, all you can do is cut, cut, cut - staffing, advertising, technology, office space and more.....Well let me just say: Don't YOU believe it!
Don’t psych yourselves out. Or confuse clients about what they can do today. Don’t talk too much about markets one, three or five years ago, when you need to deal with markets today and a few days ago
I’m excited for this year. All it will take to be successful is a NORMAL mindset, skill set, tool set and business model to create NORMALLY GREAT outcomes for our clients, colleagues and the effectively normal -
YOU!
I’m grateful to have clients and colleagues who call me and start the conversation with, “Let’s do something great with this market!”
So that was why I was in the city that day. Not to just teach my class or network or catch up with clients. Not to get a free dinner or a lead on another deal down the road.

Your value isn’t negotiable. You may not be for everyone, for every deal, for all prices, but that’s neither your fault nor your concern. You can’t set aside a “piece” of your awesomeness to fit someone who wants the full YOU; and you’ll never have time for the right clients tomorrow if you’re bogged down with ones who don’t believe in you today.
Using The One Good Thing activity with your clients, colleagues, and your sphere can drown out the noise of the media and instill confidence.
To anyone worried that it will be difficult to succeed in challenging markets, give this hotel a call. Then you'll realize JUST HOW EASY it is to RISE TO THE TOP! You just need to be reachable, be kind, and be flexible.
Stop thinking about things that no longer exist. Get working on the opportunity that’s HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. Because LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE ON TRACK NOW and will be tomorrow.
