This is Why I Speak

Thank YOU!

To everyone, I was able to go on a co-mission recently of learning and growth. As a teacher, the reward of the work is so much more than the fee. It's the sharing of ideas and inspiration to take action. And seeing the impact and change that results.

Recently I’ve been doing a weekly series for a group of motivated, high-performing individuals on how to increase inventory and bring “Spring Forward” to today. Our first session shared my timeless belief that our Sphere of Influence remains the greatest source of growth in our lives. We learned how to be a good listener, to turn uncertainty into opportunity, and just have a decent conversation without scary, fear-of-loss scripts or cliche-copy ads. With the assignment to converse with just a few people a day (Formula of Fives), we set off to work.

A week later the participants shared their results in the chat room. Here is just a small portion of the messages that scrolled by:

Appointment!
Set one for Friday
Appointment looking to sell in spring
An appt with a seller also going to buy
2 listing appointments
2 great calls and a great listing lead
Listing this weekend
Two appointments!
Lunch appointment today
Someone’s parents needing to buy
1- offer and 1- listing
Great calls, nice to catch up
It works lol
Yay! LOVE this!

During a pandemic!
And a snowstorm.
Amid fierce competition.
Who’s afraid of murder hornets!?

The scrolling chat brought a huge smile to my face and a little dance on camera! I loved seeing them all, but the last two are especially favorites. “It works!” is the dream reaction of every teacher with their work. And “Yay!” is the present of witnessing people’s joy at their growth. What an honor to work with people like this - like YOU!

This is why I speak.

Every day brings another article about this or that tech or tool or triple-formula-pyramid about to change the industry and out-mode the human professional. These announcements get the headlines. What doesn’t get so much celebration are the little conversations like these in chat rooms and conference rooms where hard-working professionals use - gasp! - telephones and Zoom rooms and email and handshakes to out-perform the algorithms.

Oh, with no cut out of their commission.

So thank you, YOU, whose work helped me learn the way. My peers like Roger and Diana and Darryl and David and Larry and Mike and so many more who kept me on the people-path. Yes, it still works! Even better than ever. People will always want to hear from people when it comes to the big moments in their lives.

And thank you to YOU TOO who put our lessons into play. Who try and try again. If calling a few friends, colleagues, neighbors and peers can do this in just one week, I can’t wait to see how far your careers will go in a month. Or a year!

I’m grateful for every one of these journeys together.
It makes me jump for joy whenever I hear the results.
I look forward to seeing the next payoff from our efforts.
I guess that’s why they call it a Co-Mission!
