A Gift of Thanks

A Gift of Thanks

-------------------

To the doctors and nurses;

Scientists and volunteers;

Specialists and contact tracers;

And no-tweet administrators

Who worked through the tears.

To the essential workers and behind-the-scenes staff;

To the drivers, flyers, pickers who made, shipped and packed.

To the goers and the doers and the tryers all the same,

To all who never gave up, amidst the struggle and pain.

To those who got up early and worked late without being asked,

And every one of us who went about calmly in an unfamiliar mask.

Ten months ago it all fell apart:

We were scared and confused,

From our heads to our hearts.

We wondered aloud,

Might we not lose?

Finally today it is here -

The moment of good news.

Each jab in the arm,

With victory

We are infused!

This marvelous gift,

Oh perfect time of year,

Means so soon to come,

An end of our fears.

We each did our part,

Some a bit more,

We even had to overcome

The hype and the bores.

What beauty is this,

We with joy can now say.

The power of humanity,

That’s the winner today.

Our story past and present -

We will always get there.

How in mind, body and spirit,

Never we succumb to our fears.

From all corners of the world,

And distances unseen -

Our deepest of gratitude

To all who birthed

this marvelous new protein!

Now let us turn winter into spring

With hope in our hearts and

A quick little sting -

By re-singing that old song:

“All I want for Christmas

Is my two shots of vaccine!”
